Quick answer: The prohibited items Nepal to India courier parcels cannot carry are power banks and loose batteries, phones, laptops and smart watches, perfume and aerosols, lighters and firecrackers, gold, silver and precious jewellery, cash, sukuti and other meat products, branded copies, tobacco, drugs and weapons. Medicine needs a doctor's prescription, and homemade food may be inspected or rejected. Everything else, such as labelled food, clothes, documents and gifts, can be sent from Rs. 800 per kg.

Prohibited Items Nepal to India: Full List
Nepal and India share an open border, so many people think anything can travel between the two countries. A Nepal to India courier parcel is different. Every box is X-ray scanned, checked against air and road safety rules, and inspected by Indian customs. This table shows the prohibited items Nepal to India senders ask about most, and why each one is refused.
| Item | Status | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Power banks, loose batteries | Not allowed | Fire risk in transport |
| Phones, laptops, tablets, smart watches | Not allowed | Built-in lithium batteries |
| Perfume, deodorant spray, nail polish | Not allowed | Flammable |
| Lighters, matches, firecrackers, gas | Not allowed | Dangerous goods |
| Gold, silver, precious jewellery | Not allowed | High value, not insurable by courier |
| Cash and currency | Not allowed | Not permitted by courier |
| Sukuti, meat achar, meat | Not allowed | Animal products |
| Branded copies | Not allowed | Counterfeit goods |
| Tobacco, drugs, weapons | Not allowed | Illegal or restricted |
| Medicine | With conditions | Doctor's prescription needed |
| Homemade or unlabelled food | With conditions | May be inspected or rejected |
Batteries, Phones and Electronics
Lithium batteries are the number one reason a parcel is stopped. They can overheat and catch fire during transport, so power banks, loose batteries, mobile phones, laptops, tablets, smart watches, wireless earbuds and battery-powered toys are all prohibited items Nepal to India on our courier service.
X-ray scanners find batteries every time, even when they are hidden inside clothes. When one is found, the whole box is held, not just the battery. If the receiver needs a phone or laptop, it is faster and safer for them to buy one in India.
Perfume and Flammable Items
Perfume, body spray, deodorant aerosols, nail polish, nail polish remover, hand sanitiser in large bottles, lighters, matches, firecrackers and gas cylinders are all flammable or dangerous goods. They cannot be sent from Nepal to India by courier, even in small quantities. One small bottle of perfume is enough to stop an entire parcel.
Common mistake: many people add a small perfume bottle as a gift inside a clothes parcel. It is one of the most frequent prohibited items Nepal to India customers try to send, and it causes delays every festival season.
Gold, Silver, Jewellery and Cash
Gold, silver, diamond and other precious jewellery cannot be sent by courier. The same applies to cash, coins and foreign currency. These items are high value, easy to lose, and not covered by normal courier handling. Artificial jewellery made without gold or silver is allowed, so it is a good gift option instead.
Sukuti and Meat Products
Sukuti (dried meat), meat achar, dried fish and other meat products are prohibited items Nepal to India on our service. Animal products are closely checked at customs and are not accepted. Vegetarian achar in a labelled, sealed jar is allowed.
Branded Copies
Copies of branded clothes, shoes, bags and watches are treated as counterfeit goods and can be seized. This includes fake sports shoes, copy handbags and imitation watches that are easy to buy in Kathmandu markets. Genuine items for personal use are fine, and non-branded Nepali products such as handmade bags, dhaka clothing and felt crafts make better gifts anyway.
Tobacco, Drugs and Weapons
Tobacco products such as cigarettes, khaini and gutkha, illegal drugs, weapons, knives with blades, khukuri, replica guns and any other illegal items are strictly prohibited. Parcels containing them can be seized and reported to the authorities. Decorative khukuri are a popular souvenir, but they are blades and cannot be sent by courier.
Items Allowed with Conditions
Some items are not prohibited items Nepal to India, but they need extra care:
- Medicine: allowed with a valid doctor's prescription, in the original packaging and in a personal quantity. Give us the exact medicine name for the declaration.
- Homemade or unlabelled food: may be opened, inspected or rejected by customs. Factory-sealed, labelled food clears fastest.
- Achar and spices: allowed when labelled and sealed. Vegetarian only.
- Used clothes: allowed for personal shipments. Wash and fold them first.
- Fragile items: singing bowls, statues and glass must be wrapped and boxed separately.
- High-value items: must be declared at their real value.
If you are unsure whether an item falls into one of these groups, keep it out of the box and ask us first. It is always easier to add an item later than to recover a parcel that has been held at customs.
Sending to Students and Workers in India
Many parcels on our Nepal to India courier route go to students in Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune and Chandigarh, and to workers across India. These boxes often include the riskiest items, so here is a quick guide:
- Do send: clothes and warm wear, labelled achar and spices, packaged snacks, books, notebooks, documents and certificates.
- Do not send: old phones, chargers with power banks, perfume, gas lighters for cooking, or homemade meat dishes.
- Documents: send transcripts and certificates separately by air for Rs. 850. They arrive in 4–6 days instead of 10–15.
What Happens If You Send a Prohibited Item?
If a prohibited item is found during our check, we remove it before dispatch and return it to you. If it is hidden and found later at the scanner or at Indian customs, the result is usually worse:
- The whole parcel is held, not just the one item.
- Delivery is delayed while the box is opened and checked.
- The item can be confiscated or destroyed, and in some cases the full parcel is returned.
- You lose the shipping cost and have to send the parcel again.
That is why we always check every box before it leaves our office. Honest packing is the fastest way to send from Nepal to India.
Safe Swaps: What to Send Instead
Most prohibited items Nepal to India have a safe alternative that makes just as good a gift:
| Instead of | Send |
|---|---|
| Gold or silver jewellery | Artificial jewellery, pote, or a pashmina shawl |
| Perfume | Non-flammable cream, soap or a gift set without sprays |
| Power bank or phone | Money transfer through a bank so the receiver can buy locally |
| Sukuti or meat achar | Labelled vegetarian achar, timur chhop or packaged snacks |
| Homemade sweets in a plain box | Shop-packed sweets and dry fruits with a label |
| Branded copies | Dhaka topi, kurta, handmade bags and other genuine Nepali products |

Festival Season: The Most Common Prohibited Items
During Dashain, Tihar and Chhath, thousands of families send from Nepal to India, and the same few prohibited items show up again and again:
- Perfume and body spray packed as gifts with new clothes.
- Power banks and old phones sent for relatives or students.
- Gold or silver tika jewellery for festivals and weddings.
- Homemade sel roti, sweets and sukuti in plain boxes.
- Firecrackers and diyas with fuel for Tihar.
Leave these out and choose shop-packed sweets, clothes, dhaka topi, artificial jewellery and handicrafts instead. Parcels go by road and take 10–15 days, so book at least two weeks before the festival day.

Personal Parcels Only
Our Nepal to India courier service is for personal shipments: gifts, family parcels, clothes, personal belongings and documents in normal quantities. We do not handle commercial or bulk cargo. Goods for sale need export paperwork and a customs broker, and some items allowed in a personal parcel may be restricted for trade.
Other Countries Have Different Lists
The prohibited items Nepal to India list is shorter than for most countries. If you also send to other places, check their rules too. Australia, for example, accepts no food at all, and Japan does not accept rice or any jewellery. Read our guides on what you cannot send to Australia, what you can send to Japan and how to send gifts abroad from Nepal.
Who Sets These Rules?
The list of prohibited items Nepal to India comes from three sources. Air and road transport safety rules ban batteries, flammable liquids and other dangerous goods. Indian customs controls what can enter the country, including meat products, counterfeit goods and high-value items, and food sold in India must follow labelling rules from the FSSAI. Finally, our delivery partners have their own lists of items they will not carry. We follow all three, so your parcel moves without trouble.
